Free transparent background maker
Make a picture’s background transparent
Turn the background of any photo, logo, or graphic transparent in one step. The AI keeps the subject, erases everything else, and saves a PNG with a true alpha channel — free, in your browser, with nothing uploaded to a server.

How to make a background transparent
Three steps, no Photoshop, no account. Your files stay on your device the whole time.
Add the picture you want transparent
Drag a JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC file into the tool, or click to pick one (up to 15 at once). Everything runs in your browser, so there is no upload step to wait for.
The AI erases the background
A neural network detects the subject and turns every background pixel transparent automatically. Check the result with the before/after slider, and use the Refine brush if an edge or a gap needs a quick fix.
Save the transparent PNG
Download the picture as a PNG with a real alpha channel at the original resolution. It will show the transparent checkerboard in editors and composite cleanly over any new background.
Transparent background, explained in 30 seconds
A “transparent background” means the file stores an alpha value for every pixel: the subject stays opaque, the background becomes fully see-through. Only some formats can hold that information — PNG and WebP can, JPG cannot. That is why this tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC as input but always saves the result as PNG: it is the one format every app, browser, and print workflow handles with transparency intact.
The cutout itself is done by a segmentation neural network (the same approach behind the main background remover) rather than a colour-key trick, so it works on busy backgrounds, not just solid white — and white areas that belong to the subject are preserved. If you plan to put the picture on the web afterwards, running the PNG through a compressor like Compress Picture keeps the transparency while cutting the file size.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I make a picture's background transparent for free?
- Drop the picture into the tool above. The AI detects the subject, erases the background, and gives you a transparent PNG to download. It is completely free — no signup, no watermark, no usage limit — and the processing happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded anywhere.
- Why does my picture need to be a PNG to have a transparent background?
- JPG has no alpha channel, so a JPG simply cannot store transparency — any 'transparent' area would be filled with a solid colour. PNG (and WebP) support per-pixel alpha, which is why this tool always outputs PNG. You can feed it a JPG, but the transparent result must be saved as PNG.
- Can I make a logo's background transparent?
- Yes. Drop the logo file in and the AI will cut the mark away from its background. Logos with flat backgrounds usually come out clean; if a thin letter or fine detail gets clipped, the Refine brush restores it in a couple of strokes. For pixel-perfect work on vector-style logos, finish with the smart-edges mode zoomed in.
- Does making the background transparent reduce image quality?
- No. The output PNG keeps the original resolution — only the background pixels are changed to transparent. PNG compression is lossless, so the subject itself is not degraded the way a re-saved JPG would be.
- Why do I see a grey-and-white checkerboard behind my picture?
- The checkerboard is how editors and previews display transparency — it is not part of your file. When you place the PNG over a new background, in a document, or on a website, those areas will be see-through.
- Can I make a white background transparent?
- Yes — white backgrounds are the most common case and the AI handles them well. Unlike simple 'remove one colour' tools, it segments the actual subject, so white areas inside the subject (a shirt, an eye highlight, packaging) are kept while the white backdrop becomes transparent.
- Is there a transparent background maker that doesn't upload my photos?
- This one. The neural network runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly, so your pictures never leave your device — nothing is uploaded, stored, or analysed on a server. It even keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
- How do I make a background transparent without Photoshop?
- You don't need Photoshop or any install. This tool does the cutout automatically in the browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, and Android. The result is a standard transparent PNG you can use in Canva, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Figma, or any editor.
- Can I make the background transparent on several pictures at once?
- Yes. Drop up to 15 files in one go — each is processed in turn and you can download the transparent PNGs individually or all together.
- What can I use a transparent-background picture for?
- Product listings on white or branded backdrops, profile pictures and avatars, YouTube thumbnails, presentation slides, stickers, watermarks and logos on websites, collages, and print layouts — anywhere the picture has to sit on top of something else without a box around it.
Nothing to upload, nothing to leak
The AI runs locally in your browser with WebAssembly, so making a background transparent never sends your picture to a server. Read more about how the model works on the about page.
